Ah. Finally settled. Well, at least a little bit settled. Saturday morning we arrived at 9:00 am to move in. While Mother waited in the extensive car line to unload, Father and I sat on steps outside my residence hall and played guitar, waiting for her. We got unloaded super quickly and efficiently and senior volunteers whisked all the bags up to my room. We stood there for a long time trying to figure out how to arrange my room (the smallest double on hall) in the most practical manner, but finally settled, put down our big fluffy rug, and rearranged the furniture. My bed was made and most stuff unpacked before my roommate even arrived at 10. The rest of move in day was a barrage of meetings and meeting people. There were food trucks for lunch, then more meetings. Then the parents left and we juniors had a picnic! Move in day was exhausting and overwhelming, but getting to go to sleep at 10:30 was the best feeling. I slept fairly well, although the eastern facing windows meant the sun woke me up quite early.
The second day was, perhaps, even longer than the first, although it started much later. Because it was sunday we were allowed to sleep in (thanks, sun, for not letting us do that), and brunch was served at 10:30. Following brunch was another meeting, this one with short skits about fun stuff, including but not limited to: Attendance! Stress! Clinic! Academics! It was extensive information for far too long, but the drama board did provide some comic relief. We had free time after the meeting so I went with a group to Harris Teeter. After that was dinner and after dinner was an interhall activity, which was fun, but outside, and therefore HOT. Then we learned about housekeeping, in another hall meeting, and we released free until 10:30 check. I went out to the courtyard and met lots of neat people, one of whom played guitar, which was nice. I showered and went to bed right after 10:30 check and woke up at 7:00.
Breakfast today started at 7:30, so I went on the early side and stayed for a fairly long time. I then went outside and played on the swings (!) until it was time to go, you guessed it, to another meeting! Following the meeting my roommate and I, along with one other classmate, walked around the buildings and checked out the library. We tested the egg chairs (see above, the other person in the picture also went to RTHS, and photo creds to my roommate.) and now I'm just waiting for lunch in 10 minutes. The rest of the day holds a tour for my classes, a meeting (surprise! this one is actually a small group meeting with my advisor, though), and, after dinner, textbook checkout.
