The Good: Academically, this past week was Academazing. My teachers have been marvelously supportive and are clearly so intelligent. NCSSM is a rare gem of a high school in that the teachers actually want to be here, and want to teach. While I have noticed the students around me drowning with homework late into the night, I've found it quite manageable, as I utilize my free blocks and start my homework as soon as class is off. Most days this week, I've been able to finish my homework before dinner, and while I'm sure the amount will increase over the next few weeks, I already feel (over?) confident in my time managing abilities. Socially, I've had a lot of opportunities to meet new people, and I remember about 20% of their names. On friday night, I went to a play (!) and met tons of people with similar interests in theatre. Following that, I went to two IVIZ's, and met a lovely group of people. After curfew we had several girls over and watched Rent! in our room. Pizza rolls, oatmeal, cheeze-its, and Hawaiian punch were necessarily served.
The Meh: Mostly, the meh is just that things are wee bit overwhelming. Homesickness is a little more of a Thing than I expected, but fortunately I'm close enough to go home every weekend. Of course, extensive AmStud readings are kind of boring, but I like school, and always have, so they're totally tolerable. Mainly though, the food is very Meh.
The Ugly: Sick sick sick! I am so tired of the sick thing! I think (hope?) it's over for good now, but the last week was pretty stinky, and the cafeteria food was not helping. This weekend, however, after a trip to the doctor/pharmacy, Mother stocked me up on the Things To Eat When You Throw Up What The Cafeteria Serves. Here is that list.
- Ginger Ale
- Nilla Wafers
- Saltine Crackers
- Cheerios
- Applesauce
- Cream of Wheat
- Ramen Noodles
I would strongly encourage anyone suffering from dorm sickness to stock up on these essentials. To-da-loo and talk to you soon.
